Here at the Ole Meetinghouse are some updates:
(As of October 2011)
A.) Doug & Debby Wedin's stipend was increased this
year, as of July 2011. If you have any
questions talk to Tom Hohmann.
B.) The Radio spot was discontinued and interest in the website
increased, so more attention will be given to it. If you have any
questions talk to Doug Wedin.
C.) On Mission support: Three focuses were agreed upon to see what
would come of each, so in a year we could decide where we will turn our
attention. First was the orphanage in Liberia, second was the
Hall's and third were the Thomas's. If you
have any questions talk to Angie Boehm.
D.) Report on Yearly Meeting was given.
Concern over the Yearly Meeting's approach to the Scriptures brought
about much discussion. Erik Boehm will be following up with the
Clerk of YM. Everyone was unanimously supportive of his sense of
problem. That being: We need objective critique in our
lives. Yearly Meeting tends to believe the Scriptures are not credible
enough for this. If you have questions, talk to Erik Boehm.
E.) Doug & Debby Wedin gave a report on Quaker Cove.
It continues to be sluggish with multiple agendas. If you have any
questions talk to Doug Wedin.
F.) There was a discussion on local
ministry: As we know VFC encourages everyone to develop acts of
kindness in the culture around us, looking for windows of opportunity to
process the truth with others. Sometimes these investments grow
and develop to a place where others can join together as a team to work
in lives of those around us.
If this
occurs, then the individual or family should approach the leadership and
congregation with a detailed plan on how to proceed while looking for
counsel, prayer, others to join them and perhaps even capital to develop
the act of kindness. This should begin by talking to Greg.
G.) There was a discussion about our current structure
and interactive preaching. The sense of the group was that it is
very helpful and should be continued. The reason it was brought up
by Doug was there were uncomfortable times when people come from outside
the group and were not used to the disciplines we practice among
ourselves. They and our people become uncomfortable. Everyone
needs to be pro-active with this dynamic when it happens, praying for
and helping others acclamate. We will re-access the issue if our
numbers grow beyond our ability to interact appropriately in our
meetings for worship. If you have any questions, talk to Greg.
